The Game Boy Color version features scaled-down graphics, due to hardware limitations. The game is a collection of seven real pinball tables licensed by Gottlieb. It was released on Decemfor Microsoft Windows and in 2001 for the Game Boy Color. Not hearsay, that's from an invested party.įarsight already are licenced to sell virtual recreations of all the tables they currently have licenced (70-odd tables) so I would say the licencing issues are more around who can use them in cabinet mode ? This is just an assumption.Microsoft Pinball Arcade is a pinball video game from Microsoft. Noah has said it is in development, but will take some time, but will come. This is not hearsay as it came from them (albeit 6 months ago)Īccording to Noah (runs VPForums but also manufactures and distributes Virtuapins) he loaned Farsight (TPA devs) a demo cab to use in testing for full Cabinet mode development and that has been seen in the wild at the expo. Like I said, my correspondence with them was back in Jan so unless something has happened in the last 6 months, they have licensing restrictions. Even if he may know something it's hearsay: information received from other people which cannot be substantiated rumour. VP Cabs is not Pinball Arcade though :unsure therefore hearsay. I recall reading on a forum somewhere that you can use a utility to rotate the display (due to TPA not doing it for you on startup, whcih is just stupid!) and set it in fixed cam mode, then just get PinballX to display the backglass images, but I'll be stuffed if I can find it again!!Īny clues as to how you got the Free Cam Mod to work on your setup? Can you possibly share its settings.ini file, or is that stretching the friendship a bit too much? :( I have the Free Cam Mod and have read the instructions, but although I have left the settings.ini for it to pop up the overlay it does not, even if I press Numpad 0 as per the instructions. full official cabinet support is apparantly coming, but they have been saying that for years ! ) but it is a bit of a convoluted nightmare to setup. The PBA freecam mod willl give you a full VP-like experience, DMD on backglass or third screen, and a seperate backglass (though they are static, so not as good as the active ones in VP. I haven't really bothered with anything other than VP for years, but vpx is giving me the willies, looks great, but not being able to nudge any more just kills the fun for me. I'm going to look at Pinball FX2, the tables look pretty weird and whacky, but might be a novelty. That's cool, Lazarus was wondering if it wold work with his real DMD, there's the answer. I'm with Lazarus - where did you get hold of it? ) I'm inclined to believe it would do the same for TPA. I've been able to get PFX2 to output to a PIN2DMD display using DMDExt and it does the job nicely. You are on the money with getting PinballX to display the backglass and for the DMD, there is a utility called DMDExt which routes the DMD data to either a monitor or a DMD display. Still, I agree that the tables very nice and play accurately and, most importantly, they have very good physics to them!!! I don't know what version of DX it uses, pretty sure it wasn't DX11 though. I found a doctored version a while back but it doesn't support the plug-in that enables cabinet mode. maybe a Pinball Arcade tournament for the next VPL ? the added bonus to that would be everyone could play on whatever device they wanted, pc, tablet, phone. (if you are using PinballX, you can configure a backglass to load via the list manager to get that look.) I've read there are other hacks for PA to run DMD as a seperate skids. Has anyone else tried the DX11 version in their Pincab ? The fact PA doesn't natively support 2nd/3rd display isn't an issue when the tables look and play this great. The realism, depth and lighting for pretty much every table I looked at surpasses Visual Pinball, even VPX versions - but it has a decent nudge, so that means better-than-vpx, for me anyway. Not sure what kind of card you need for the DX11 tables, i'm using a 970gtx and everything set to maximum and things run very smoothly and tables look amazing at full screen on my 40" playfield. I've just installed the DX11 version of The Pinball Arcade into my Pincab, and I'm gobsmacked :o
